Before I begin, I want to thank everyone who visited the site yesterday. Usually, Sunday is the slowest day of the week for me but yesterday I had almost 800 views . For the big website, that is not much (i.e. when I worked on a big Star Wars website, 10,000 hits would be a slow day) but for a single man operation, I’m very happy with the numbers. I’m receiving really good feedback, especially on the new chapters, and many new readers are joining us. Thank you!
Okay, for my foreign visitors that don’t know the term, ‘Monday Morning Quarterback’, it refers to the fact that most professional American Football games (you know, the game with the oblong brown ball, pads, and upright goals) are played on Sundays. On Monday mornings, the fans debate the games and state what they would have done differently to win the big game. The term is used for anyone that complains about a problem after the struggle or uncertainty phase. A common use is, “I would have turned right back there (after the driver turned left and now you are lost).” It has also become an active statement known as ‘Monday Morning Quarterbacking’ to describe the annoying behavior.
There are definitely times as I’m writing for Portal and the next book I feel that way. The point-of-view change in the club scenes worked so well that I now think I should have done it much sooner. I’m not a huge fan of massive chapters written for every little character (George R.R. Martin, Robert Jordan (RIP) *cough cough*), but for the online serial format, I think it works well. Some of my favorite passages have been from Justice’s POV. The guy is an arrogant and egotistical prick but it is easy to see how he views the world with such skewed glasses. He is the heir-apparent to the new Enhanced generation and celebrated by the media and teenagers/young women. Young male celebrities in the real world are perfectly capable of handling that kind of pressure and attention. Justin Bieber got arrested again? Well, nevermind. They can’t handle it at all. Miley did what over the weekend? I guess the women are in the same boat.
I am my own worst critic. There are a lot of things I wish I could do differently. One day, when I’m rich, I will go back and re-edit my earlier chapters and then hire a real editor to help me. Okay, that thought is making me sad. Not the editing part, but not being rich. Work, work, work – it’s just not much fun.
On a lighter note, I’m enjoying the conversation in Chapter 54 about Michael and Scott. I think you’ll find the upcoming Chapters filling in a few more pieces of your puzzles.
Here’s to another week of two more chapters in The Enhanced Series!
