I don’t get it, Michael said angrily.Do not trust her, the voice responded again. That was the only thing it would say about Elizabeth Jurgens. What is your problem with Elizabeth? For once, I have someone who can help me and she’s hot. It’s not like I’m sleeping with her.Do not trust her.Dammit, say something else. She has already shown me so much. I need her. How to Use Google Drive to Save Your Masterpiece

Last night, PCS's own Cheyanne Young tweeted about losing her flash drive and posted a picture of the broken device. As a Web Developer who works remotely, I am intimately familiar with Google Docs - actually called Google Drive now, a free service provided by Google. Cheyanne mentioned she had not uploaded to Google Docs/Drive in some time (meaning her files were not up to date).I'm here to show you (and Cheyanne) how to work in Google Drive and never upload or lose your files again.First, you need a Google account. If you refuse to have anything to do with Google (and they deserve a lot of scorn...

Portal – Chapter 72

At 7:55 a.m., Michael was at Holcomb gardens, a nature preserve at the old Butler University, now a training area. Many of the rope courses created by the former students were still used by JTF agents. The gardens were once meticulously cared for, a picture-perfect location for a wedding, but now closed off to the public. When he asked for directions to the gardens, Michael was told he would be in the right spot once he found the fountain of Persephone. When he reached it, Jury was facing away from him, reading the inscription at the base of the goddess' s statue. Michael looked at her again. She must...

Battlestar Galactica…no…Pegasus…no…Theseus

You can find all sorts of things on YouTube. Over the weekend, Scott Manley (the Kerbal Space Program expert), posted a video about playing a free game called Diaspora: Broken Armistice by Hard Light Productions. The game has been out for some time but I completely missed it. Based on the Freespace 2 engine, the story follows the Battlestar Theseus as the Cylons invade the 12 Colonies. The flight mechanics are excellent but really challenging to learn at first. I love the drifting and flipping you can do like the TV show. The graphics are excellent for a decade old engine.I'm a sucker for simulators....

Body Armor – Would It Really Protect a Superhero?

Over the weekend, I posted an article at the Pen and Cape Society about body armor and how it really protects the wearer. The results are not what you usually see in comics (likely why authors don't bother with realism).Body Armor – Would It Really Protect a Superhero?

The Power Game – Building a Ranking System

There was an interesting convergence of ideas this week. In Drew Hayes's Corpies - Chapter 16, Titan discusses the power-ranking system in the Super Powered world. In Portal - Chapter 70, Justice, unbeknownst to him, is undergoing a test to determine his current category (aka power level). Both worlds use destructive capability as the base system, Drew using descriptive labels, Portal using familiar numerical labels.I wrote a glossary as I was developing the Enhanced world to help me maintain continuity. I believe the government would adapt a known scale rather than attempt to develop a new system...

Portal – Chapter 70

Daniel was still cleaning up the shattered glass in his office when his phone rang. It was his private line, the one unknown to Federal agencies in Washington, D.C..“Yes?” he said quickly. He would not say another word until a passphrase was delivered. If not, the phone would be destroyed immediately.“Only the strong survive,” replied the caller.“Have you arrived yet?” asked Daniel.“Yes,” the caller responded. “The IDs you provided got us in the city with no problems. We’re downtown.”“Where are you staying?” Daniel might have requested these men but he still...

Portal – Chapter 69

Elizabeth wiped away the tears before the doors opened up. She was the only person in the elevator after several JTF office workers offered to wait for the next one when they saw her walk up.The day Thomas left was one of the worst days of her life. Her life spiraled out of control for many years after until fate brought them together for one last time. And that only made it worse. She would forget the pain and start anew. Her Thomas had returned to her.As she approached, Michael noticed Jury was wrapping her long dark brown hair in a bun. She was focused on him now with a huge smile on her face...
