Portal – Chapter 82

Michael was alone again. He watched his mother and Jury, arm and arm like old friends, walk away with Rick trailing dutifully behind. Susan was born and raised on the beaches just south of Los Angeles while Jury lived in the San Diego area for many years, so they were busy chatting away about their adventures throughout Southern California. His mother just surprised him with her eagerness to share about her past but Jury was one of the best psychiatrists in the country that specialized in post-traumatic disorders. The criminal Enhanced made sure there were always new horrible experiences, just...

“I’m so proud of you!” Susan Larson proclaimed as she hugged Michael. He was several inches taller than her so he leaned over to let her wrap her arms around him.“Thanks, mom,” Michael said smiling as he closed his eyes and held his mother close. She was wearing a simple floral dress, probably from Goodwill, but it was clean and did not smell like cigarettes or vodka.“Congratulations, Michael,” Rick added. He was wearing a grey Indianapolis Firefighter shirt, khaki shorts, and sandals . Michael looked at his mother’s date and smiled. This was a much better introduction than...

It's been a couple of weeks since my last blog post. I'm in the middle of couple of projects as a writer and a homeowner. The winter was brutal here and I'm spending a lot of time fixing the damage and doing a lot of general cleaning up. We have a neighborhood yard sale this weekend and I want to sell a lot and get rid of even more. One of my goals this year is to spend less money. When I'm making millions on royalties, I can be less frugal, but at the moment, I need all the money I can get. I switched from Uverse to Xfinity. Yes, yes, I know that Comcast is evil but not any more than AT&T....

Archangel, the Enhanced formerly known as Lady Justice, watched Jury, the person she wanted to avoid, walk towards her. Scott was busy taking photos with fans, mostly young women with short skirts and revealing tops, and talking to the press. She knew he would be too busy and too distracted to really care about her speech since their relationship was ended the night he tried to kill Michael. When she had emerged from backstage, several local reporters asked her about her decision to leave Team Justice. She had lied gracefully, complimenting the Jurgen family and in particular, Scott, for the chance...

As Justice continued his speech, Alaina observed the other recruits becoming restless. They were told by Agent Prescott and Agent Edwards to maintain an upright and proud posture in their seats but many recruits, especially Net, were no longer sitting squarely in the seat. If she had to guess, he had fallen asleep. She would have nudged him but she would not embarrass herself or Terrence. After her speech, the media would be looking for any excuse to criticize the daughter of Orbital Strike.Michael had been acting strangely all day and appeared agitated. He was constantly shifting in his chair...

Dagger, in shadow form, was perched high above the celebration near an unsuspecting Metro sniper. As the call from Cloak came, he quietly slipped down the side of the building. His mass nearly zero, he floated easily down the twelve stories to the ground below. As he touched the concrete sidewalk hidden in the shadows of the western sun, he reformed and tapped his daggers. He knew Cloak was following someone, a cop or JTF agent, and they were going to kill him.Military Park was fenced off from the mundanes milling around looking for handouts with JTF agents patrolling the perimeter. Dagger...

Cloak slipped through the crowd as Dagger watched from the shadow nearby. He appeared as an old man, a subtle change in perception and enough to stay hidden. He purposely avoided getting too close to the stage, the traitor Jury was a danger to him. The JTF also had a roaming mentalist in the crowd, but she was arrogant, probably a new agent. She projected her power like a beacon in the night. She was easy to avoid. The crowd roared at something that pretty red-head traitor said and then the camera flashes started. Cloak had to dodge a few elbows but he was still unhindered. The Director believed...

As Michael stepped out of the Stryker, he could see thousands of people inside Military Park cheering. All these people had turned out to congratulate the Enhanced recruits, it was almost overwhelming. The crowds cheered as Lady Justice and Turbulence landed. Michael noticed that the loudest supporters for the flyers were definitely men. Several wives  and girlfriends gave their significant others the evil eye as they loudly hollered for the two beautiful women. Net hugged several women off to the side. Michael recognized many of them were his dance partners from the club. After Justice, he was definitely...

Dimitry Vanzin and Antonio Suarez were on several most-wanted lists, FBI, Interpol, and the Russian Federal Security Service. The two-man team, known as Cloak and Dagger, were highly compensated by everyone from Enhanced kingpins to mundane dictators for their services. But for this mission, they were working for free, a gift to the cause. They were promised high positions in the new administration with the power to settle old debts against their enemies both foreign and domestic. It was a simple task, kill Maze, the last member of the The Old Guard that still believed that Enhanced were heroes....
